Challenge: Build a two story, lake view home addition that perfectly blends with the existing home.
The owner of a lake view home requested a two-story addition. The upstairs needed to include a home theater, pool table, wet bar, balcony and bath. The first floor was to include a larger game room for exercise equipment, a larger Lanai, and a remodeled summer kitchen. Newer additions to a home can sometimes be obvious based on the finish work and other design elements. Our challenge was to build this addition and naturally blend it with the existing home.
A Magnificent Florida Home Addition
The Owner of this particular property said that we achieved all of their goals, plus we had a pleasant surprise. Their one story Mediterranean style home overlooks a gorgeous pool and a picturesque lake with trees along the shoreline. We designed the new addition to maximize the views of the Lake and seamlessly fit the home as if it was always there.
Spectacular Features and Views
The new stairway off the Family Room is very inviting with wrought iron balusters and sunlight from a large glass window above the landing. At the top step, you see a broad 180 degree view of the new rooms and then the lake. Each floor area is well defined with ceiling sculpture, stained wood trims furnishings. From the Balcony, we were surprised at the spectacular feeling one gets by looking down and across the lake.
Atmosphere and Functionality
The home theater is being enjoyed by all. It has a recessed floor for the first row of furniture, a large screen that can be seen by everyone, powered drapes and twinkling stars in the ceiling. Of course, the wet bar has a Cheers atmosphere with dark wood cabinets, dark walnut wood counter top, television, recessed lighting, refrigerator, wine cooler, and a Kegerator with a tall colorful pull handle.
On the first floor, the new exercise equipment and extra play space is being enjoyed by the family. Beneath the stairs, Faux Artist Denise created a breathtaking aquatic wonderland for the young son. Delicious meals are coming from the new summer kitchen with a stacked stone face beneath the snack bar, granite top and back splash, and refrigerator.
Florida Home Additions that Blend with Existing Homes
The Owner of the property and Barbara Stier of American Home Copr. coordinated on interior selections. Together, they made the interior of the existing house and the addition feel as one. Quoting the owner: “Sitting at the bar with friends, watching a game, overlooking the Lake….life doesn’t get much better.”
